Hillingdon is the only local authority in the country to undertake a complete library refurbishment and rebuild programme.
Completed with the opening of Uxbridge Library, this unique project is also upgrading services at all 17 of the borough’s libraries with extra books, Starbucks coffee facilities and extended opening hours. It comes at a time when many councils are closing or downgrading facilities.
Hillingdon Council leader, Councillor Ray Puddifoot, said the transformation of Uxbridge Library was “nothing short of spectacular”.
“In the space of a year we have transformed a worn-out but well used facility into a state-of-the-art library fit for the 21st century.”
There has been a marked increase in visitor numbers at all the borough's libraries following their rebuild or refurbishment.
