Singing praise for Hillingdon at The Old Vinyl Factory

"Pride, ambition and determination" – words chosen by Fran Beasley, chief executive of Hillingdon Council last night to describe ongoing regeneration at The Old Vinyl Factory – the venue for the launch of 3Fox International's inward investment magazine, Hillingdon.
“What is happening here on this site will render the Hayes that we currently know as unrecognisable”, she said.
The £250 million scheme, captured on the cover of the magazine, is one of the most prominent projects in the borough. It will see 642 homes, around 70,000sq m of commercial space and 5575sq m of leisure and retail space developed in a joint venture between Cathedral Group and Development Securities.
Funding of £7.7 million has also been secured from the mayor of London’s Growing Places Fund towards the Central Research Laboratory, the UK’s first full service incubator for hi-tech manufacturing entrepreneurs, to be developed in partnership with Hillingdon’s Brunel University.
Andrew Ward, director of corporate relations at the institute, spoke about the ambitions for the research centre.
“The funding we have secured means we can do something quite sensational,” he said. “In five to ten years time we want the centre to mirror the kind of passion they have at Tech City in the east, but with the focus on making things – on innovative manufacturing.”
Updating delegates about progress at The Old Vinyl Factory was Ben Rodgers, development manager at Cathedral Group, who called the Central Research Laboratory “a core part of the ethos of the scheme”.
“It’s really inspiring to see how the first stages are coming through,” he said, referring to stages of the scheme such as The Gatefold Building and The Boiler Room, where work is soon to begin.
Cabinet member for community, commerce and regeneration, Councillor Douglas Mills, addressed the private sector delegates in attendance: “By working together and where we see the potential and the benefits in what you as developers bring to us, we will work damn hard to have an open relationship to make sure that projects are delivered,” he said.
Hillingdon magazine was praised by Beasley, who called it a “dazzling publication that certainly has the wow factor”.
Networking sessions between key members of Hillingdon’s investment community also took place.
